Ariana Grande delivered an unforgettable performance during her latest hosting gig on Saturday Night Live (SNL), showcasing her exceptional talent for impressions.
On October 12, the Wicked star took on iconic singers Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Gwen Stefani during her hilarious opening monologue. However, the highlight of the night came when Grande channeled Celine Dion in a spot-on parody of Dion’s NFL Sunday Night Football promo.
In a pre-recorded sketch titled “Celine Dion Sports Promo,” Grande expertly impersonated the Canadian legend in a hilarious follow-up to Dion’s real promo aired on October 6, promoting the Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers matchup. In the sketch, Grande’s version of Dion sings about her love for football to the tune of Dion’s 1996 hit “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.”
“Football is a sport that connects who we are to who we were,” Grande’s Dion says in a perfect French Canadian accent. “That’s why last week, I, Celine Dion, made a promo for Sunday Night Football, OK? But football isn’t the only sport that connects us to our past.”
Grande takes the comedy to the next level by introducing UFC in her spoof. She transforms Dion’s heartfelt ballad into a UFC-themed rendition of “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” complete with dramatic imagery like “breaking of bones” and “knees to the balls,” giving viewers a mix of hilarity and intensity.
In addition to Grande’s comedy, the episode featured Stevie Nicks, who returned to SNL as the musical guest for the first time since 1983. Nicks delivered powerful performances of her new song “The Lighthouse,” inspired by Roe v. Wade, and her classic hit “Edge of Seventeen.”
